FROM WASTE TO WONDER
For our first project, we are focusing on addressing the abundant banana peel waste in our district, as it happens to be a major producer of Saba Bananas in the state. This waste is readily available at various restaurants and street food stalls around town, with each vendor discarding approximately 50 kg of banana peels daily. It is disheartening to see such a significant amount of potential resources going to waste when banana peels can be utilized as a nutrient-rich natural fertilizer and even as feed for livestock.
We are also partnering with the community in Pulau Banggi, Kudat, Sabah, to turn coconut husks into valuable agricultural products. We convert coconut husks into cocopeat, a versatile growing medium used in horticulture and agriculture. Cocopeat improves soil aeration, water retention, and provides a sustainable alternative to tradional soil, reducing the environmental impact of peat extraction.
Through our organic fertilizer and cococpeat initiative, we hope to serve as a source of inspiration for others, encouraging them to tackle recycling challenges and adopt sustainable waste management practices.
